Kim and Nancy of the SWK Family Resource Centre will be running a Parenting Course for parents of children 11 – 16 years. The course begins on Monday 25th January for 8 weeks. It is FREE!!
Most parents will acknowledge that, although parenting children of any age can bring challenges, there seem to be more and bigger challenges for them when a child becomes a teenager! This course is designed to help parents manage and enjoy the relationship they have with their child/children. The classes help parents to feel calmer and more in control. The learning provides a positive and practical understanding of what is important and what we really need to be doing as parents. Parents will learn each week some simple but effective ways to communicate and negotiate boundaries with their teenagers. Parenting is one of the absolutely hardest things we will ever do and no parent is ever fully prepared for the challenges that can arise. Sometimes, it can be a great help to find you are not alone and to be given a fresh perspective on a situations and things that you can go home and try.
The courses are open, friendly and use a variety of methods such as video clips, exercises, a bit of role play and plenty of discussion. There are information sheets to take home and the course is flexible in covering specific topics that parents within the group may want to look at.
Parenting Adolescents will run every Monday from Jan.25th from 7pm-9.30pm. at the O’Connell Centre, Cahersiveen.
