Beaches around Cahersiveen
Cuas Crom and Whitestrand are two of the most popular beaches and are renowned for great swimming. Both beaches are slightly North of Cahersiveen (’Over The Water’) located 3 miles west of Caherciveen Town over the bridge beside the Caherciveen Heritage Centre (The Old Barracks).
Cuas Crom is noted for its good swimming and its annual Christmas Day Swim (only for the very hardy!). The Blue Flag Whitestrand is a fine extensive sandy beach located in a designated natural heritage area which holds swimming lessons for children in the Summer.
Beautiful Kells Bay with its wonderful views of the Dingle Peninsula is just a 15 minute drive through Foilmore and then down the wooded valley of Kells to the Bay. This is a sheltered, sandy Blue Flag beach which is renowned for the quality of its swimming. The beach is in a rural environment with a small and idyllic harbour closeby. The whole area is rich in flora and fauna and is both a Special Area of Conservation and Natural Heritage site. There is a cafe on the beach and a Teashop and Gardens to visit nearby (both open during the Summer months only). Kells is an old fishing village and you will still see fish being brought in today. |
