Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church
|
The Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church of the Holy Cross, a Gothic Revival-style Church, was built as a result of strong conviction, great courage and tremendous sacrifice, both at home and abroad. Today, it stands testament to generations of devoted, faithful parishioners. The Church bears the name of Daniel O’Connell, the Liberator, who was born in the parish and who worked in his political career in the early 19th century to bring about Catholic Emancipation.
Completed in 1902, the O’Connell Memorial Church has served our parishioners well over many years. A building of this scale and age requires regular attention to ensure the structure remains intact and to maintain its original beauty and has recently undergone a program of extensive refurbishment and renovation to its exterior. It is hoped that refurbishment of the interior will begin in 2010, this will involve rewiring, new lighting, replastering and finishing and painting and decorating. We look forward to this project getting underway as we can see what a difference has been made to the outside of the building.
Full details of life in the Parish as well as up to date information on the Restoration Project can be found on our Parish website.
